Riding the Polar Express in North Carolina

Every year the Great Smokey Mountain Railways gets a holiday make over and becomes the Polar Express in North Carolina. From November 10- December 30th you can take the 1.25 hour ride on the Polar Express. This is a favorite holiday tradition in Bryson City. More than 90,000 passengers ride every year!

What to expect from the Polar Express in North Carolina?

The Polar Express ride is set to the sounds of the movie’s soundtrack while guests enjoy warm cocoa and treats. You can also enjoy listening and reading along to the story that inspired both the movie and this train experience. When the train arrives at the North Pole, you will find Santa Claus waiting.

Santa boards the train to greet all the children, presenting them with a special gift and their very own silver bell. The ride home is filled with Christmas carols. The ride is reminiscent of both the movie and the book it is inspired by.
