Reasons why Miami is Worth Visiting

Many Relaxing Beaches

Miami boasts 35 miles of beachfront. With so many beachfront miles you have no shortage of incredible beaches to relax at. My favorite place to go to the beach is Bill Baggs State Park in Key Biscayne. In the early mornings, it is the quietest and has the best relaxing beaches. You will have to bring your own chairs, umbrellas, and food to Bill Baggs.

Key Biscayne has so many wonderful beaches so Iโ€™d recommend exploring it. Aside from Key Biscayne, many people like to go to the beach at Matheson Hammocks and South Beach. South Beach is by far the most touristy area. South Beach is what people stereotypically imagine when they think of Miami.

PRO TIP: All the beaches in Florida are public beaches, so even if you stay in a beachfront hotel the beach is not private.

Experience Cuban Culture and Food

South Florida is incredibly diverse and multicultural. One of the biggest cultural influences youโ€™ll see in Miami is Cuban Culture. Not only Cuban culture but also delicious Cuban food. A must-try place is Versailles in Little Havana.

A sign reading "From Cuba with coffee" showing off a great reason why Miami is worth visiting.

Little Havana is the center of Cuban culture and food. There is a domino park where Abuelitos can teach you to play dominos. At Ball and Chain you can dance the night away to live Cuban music. Next door you can visit Azucar for some incredible ice cream. Of course, you must go to the mojito windows to get yourself a mojito.

Aside from Little Havana, there are also many museums and Cuban heritage locations to visit. There is a rich history of Cubans escaping Cuba and making the treacherous journey to Florida.

The Beauty of Nature in the Everglades National Park

The Everglades is one of the most unique ecosystems in the world. It is home to more than 40 different species. There are many wonderful ways to experience the Everglades. There are alligator shows and airboat rides. Our favorite way is to go on an airboat ride. Another cool thing to do is to visit the Everglades Outpost. The Outpost rehabilitates animals before they go back to the wild.

Immerse Yourself in Multicultural Miami Food

While Miami may not have a Chinatown, there are many other cultures to experience in Miami. South Florida has so many Latin American countries represented there. There are also many Caribbean countries represented in the food in Miami.

You absolutely have to get this food walking tour to experience Colombian, Peruvian, Italian, Cuban, and Spanish foods.

Enjoy Street Art at Wynwood Walls

Wynwood is a popular hipster neighborhood in Miami. The non-stop energy is one of the hallmarks of this creative hub. In recent years Wynwood has transformed from a collection of warehouses to a super cool hangout full of eclectic restaurants, bars, and shops. There are many galleries and colorful murals.

Enjoying a donut at The Salty making Miami worth visiting

As an art hub for Miami, youโ€™ll find both serious and casual collectors at the many galleries in Wynwood. The vibrant murals known as Wynwood Walls make the striking outdoor gallery that attracts thousands of visitors worldwide. The walls offer a unique and memorable experience for all.

While enjoying Wynwood, there are many great places to stop for a meal or coffee break. There are craft breweries and food halls. Some favorites include Panther Coffee, Zak The Baker, The Salty, and Coyo Taco. Wynwood is very cool and doing a tour of it would be a great way to learn more about Wynwood and explore some of the food.

There are several places to rent jet skis, kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, and even water bikes. Bill Baggs Park rents kayaks, paddle boards, and water bikes to enhance your beach time. They additionally have a place for boats to dock as well as parasailing.

You can even rent a water trampoline for some fun water activities. Different boat rentals also rent water skis and tubes to go tubing. In Miami, youโ€™ll also find many regattas where lots of boats get together for a party on the water. All these water activities really make Miami worth visiting.

There are many different water activities to check out in Miami.

Visit Miami for the Fascinating Museums

Miami has many different wonderful museums. All over the city, you can experience history, culture, and science in the various Museums. Miami has many acclaimed art museums such as The Bass in South Beach, Perez Art Museum in Downtown, and the ICA in the design district.

Perez Art Museum (or PAMM) is found on the water at Museum Park. Not only is the inside beautiful, but it is situated in a great park for exploring, walking, and even photo shoots! At Museum Park youโ€™ll also find the Frost Museum of Science.

View of the Port of Miami from Museum Park

For those traveling with children, they will love the Childrenโ€™s Museum as well as the Museum of Illusions. Another fun, family-friendly museum is the Coral Castle Museum. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is by far the most beautiful museum with the most beautiful gardens in all of Miami or even South Florida.

For all the history buffs, Miami has many wonderful museums. Including the Jewish Museum of Florida, the Wolfson at FIU, and HistoryMiami. The American Museum of Cuban Diaspora is truly unique to Miami to experience all the Cubans have experienced in their escape to freedom. Additionally, the Wings Over Miami Museum is a fun aircraft museum that is fun to visit. There is truly so much to learn and experience in the many museums in Miami. All these unique museums truly make Miami worth visiting.

There are so many unique things to do in Miami. Check out my list here!

Experience a Nightlife that Goes on All Night

Magic City is known for its nightlife. While it may not be for everyone, the nightlife is truly unique to Miami. Starting at 10/11 pm, nightlight goes into the early morning hours. Youโ€™ll be able to experience many bars and clubs in Miami. Nightlife is so popular that you can easily run into famous people when out on the town!

My favorite bar in Miami is Blackbird. Get the Blackbird drink and head outside for a dance! E11even, Club Space, and LIV are other popular clubs where you can find some famous people.

The Weather is Always Good

Sunny weather is generally what you can expect from Miami. In โ€œwinterโ€ you can experience about two cold weeks in January. The rest of the winter season is mild and sunny making it the perfect season to visit Miami.

On the beach watching the sunrise another reason why Miami is worth visiting

Summer is warm with predictable rain every afternoon. Around 3 pm every afternoon, it rains for 30 minutes and then it stops raining. The whole city comes to a stop until after the rain is over. This does however not make it cooler, but it brings out all the mosquitos. I would not recommend visiting in the summer.

Great Shopping options

Aside from the art galleries, there are many great shopping options. From Dolphin Mall to a variety of shopping plazas. Bayside Marketplace is an outdoor, touristy shopping area right on the water. It is a fun area to visit.

Overlooking Miami

Merrick Park is a high-end shopping mall that is beautiful to walk around. They have some great restaurants as well as some fancier stores. It is fun to roam around. Cocowalk is another outdoor shopping center to explore. Miracle Mile is a street with plenty of sidewalks, delicious restaurants, and plenty of shopping. If you like Thai food go to Bangkok Bangkok.

Of course, South Beach has Lincoln Road which is a pedestrian-only street. There are a lot of stores and restaurants. Walking along Lincoln Road will also get you to the beach which makes it such a unique shopping location in Miami.

Cheer on for Miamiโ€™s Sports Teams

Between the Miami Heat, Florida Panthers, Miami Marlins, Miami Dolphins, and Inter Miami CF there truly are so many sports to watch in Miami. Not only are there professional teams, but once a year Formula 1 makes their way to Miami for the Grand Prix. Some of the teams are better than others making some of the tickets a little more affordable.

University of Miami football game

If professional sports arenโ€™t your jam, the University of Miami also has many sports games to watch. The football team plays at the Dolphins stadium while the rest of the teams play at UMโ€™s campus. The milkshakes at the UM baseball stadium are a 10/10 must-try!

Enjoy the Art Deco Architecture

Miami Beach is known for its popular Art Deco Architecture. South Beach is one of the only places that has plenty of Art Deco architecture. You will find many hotels and homes in this style. They are great for many gorgeous pictures as well as an incredible history. If youโ€™re interested in learning more about the Art Deco architecture Iโ€™d recommend checking out this private architecture tour that will explain everything you need to know!

Go Wild at the many different Animal Parks

There are several great wild animal parks in Miami. Between Monkey Jungle, Jungle Island, Miami Zoo, and the Miami Seaquarium there are plenty of animals to see and experience. Monkey Jungle is a 30-acre park in South Miami that is a habitat for over 300 primates and even some endangered species of monkeys. Jungle Island is full of many different tropical birds which allows you to also have animal encounter experiences which makes it even more unique. Of course, being on the water means that the Seaquarium is incredibly popular. This animal park features all sorts of local sea animals as well as a dolphin encounter.

PRO TIP: If you’re looking at going to multiple parks try using the Miami Go City Explorer to get a good deal on entrance tickets.
