Baseball is America’s pastime. In Boston, it is taken to a whole new level. Fenway Park is an iconic baseball park – not only in Boston – but in the greater baseball world. Since 1903, fans have come to “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark” in the heart of the city. Now watching a game is an incredible experience, but it is not the only way to experience Fenway Park. Going on a Fenway Park Tour is a wonderful way to learn about the history and see behind the scenes of America’s favorite ballpark.
Fenway Park Tour
Larry and I decided to take a tour of Fenway Park just to see what it was all about. Back when we lived in Boston we didn’t have a whole lot of extra money so we didn’t think we’d be lucky enough to go to a game. Touring the park seemed like the closest we’d get. Now we did end up being able to go to a World Series game in 2018 (AND THE SOX WON!), but it was because we were offered free tickets.
I had never really been a big fan of baseball. Personally, I find that it is a boring sport, yet going to a baseball game in person and also getting a behind-the-scenes look at a ballpark can really change your perspective. Fenway Park is a historic ballpark that has been the center of Boston life since it was built. Boston rallies behind the Red Sox and along with that they have an attachment with Fenway Park and the Green Monster.
When Can You Take The Tour?
Available year-round. Public Tours depart at the top of each hour. You can buy tickets ahead of time or that same day at the “will call” ticket booths. If you buy the day-of ticket, you may need to wait an hour before you can go on your tour. We bought it at will call and then headed to lunch before the tour. Keep in mind that there are less tours on game days.

- The last tour departs at 5 p.m. on non-game days
- On game days the last tour departs THREE hours before game time

Where is Fenway Park?
Found in the center of Boston is Fenway Park. It is accessible by the Green Line train either by walking from Fenway Stop or the Kenmore Stop. The Fenway Stop is an above-ground stop. Kenmore is a hub for many buses. There are some parking lots in that area, but they are very expensive, especially on game days. Several buses stop in the area if that is more accessible than the train.

What to Expect from the Fenway Park Tour?
The Fenway Park tour is a must-do if you’re a baseball fan or are interested in learning more about this Boston Icon. Tickets are $25 per adult. You can likely buy them the day of (as long as there isn’t a game that day) at the ticket counters. They usually sell them with a tour time a couple of hours later, so may I recommend getting lunch at Tasty Burger right next to the Ballpark while you wait.
The 1-hour walking tour will show you Pesky’s Pole and let you sit atop the world Famous Green Monster. The Green Monster stands 37 feet 2 inches overlooking the left field. You get to learn about the one red seat and take in the amazing views of Boston from the roof deck overlooking the right field. You will also get to act like a sports commentator and visit the media booths.
Finally, finish the tour at the Fenway Parking Living Museum. Here you’ll see a showcase of the vast collection of Red Sox memorabilia. Fenway Park sees fans from over 93 different countries. The cost of the tickets ($25) is totally worth the hour-long tour and all the cool things you see while going behind the scenes.
Be sure to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes for your tour. For the majority of the hour, you will be standing or walking. There will be a professional photo offered to you but you will have to buy it to keep it. In my opinion, it was not worth the cost. We took our own photos. Also, note most bags will be allowed into the stadium because it is an MLB stadium so prepare accordingly.
