About Us

We are Larry & Daphne French, the founders of Our French Travels.

Our shared love of travel has led us to start sharing some of our adventures here. We are constantly on the lookout for our next adventure; so far we have visited over 70 cities worldwide, with hundreds more on our bucket list. Our most recent visits include several US, Canadian, Ireland, and Argentinian destinations. You can see the full list of destinations here.

We are currently on a new worldwide adventure while Larry pursues an International Master’s Degree through Tel Aviv University. We are currently living in Tel Aviv, Israel, for him to begin his studies with the University. So, you’ll likely see a lot more content from Israel and Europe over the next year.

When we aren’t out traveling, we call North Carolina, USA home. We have an adorable cat and a playful husky dog who you’ll see featured throughout.

About Larry French

My background is in the safety and security field, ranging between law enforcement, fire fighting, emergency medical services, and disaster management. Before starting university, I worked full-time as an Emergency Management Officer for an extensive hospital system. I work with a team to ensure that the hospital system continues to safely operate, treat patients, and support the community, no matter how the weather or other emergencies may affect our campuses.

Growing up with military parents, I spent time in countries all over the world, along with several US states. This travel just helped me see just how big and amazing our world is. And that made me want more of it. As an adult, I lived primarily in New England, ranging from the rural farmlands in Northern Maine, to a little island off the coast, to living in the city of Boston. This has given me a variety of knowledge that includes how to milk a cow and pick potatoes to how to navigate a major subway system.

Outside of work; I love to ski, hike and spend time with my wife and pets. (I was the one that convinced her that we should get a dog.) We love to try new restaurants. So much so that we have a restaurant club membership that gives us suggestions for new restaurants in our area every month. I also volunteer for a disaster relief agency and am on a bowling league.

I am the detailed oriented planner type. You’ll see a lot of that throughout my articles, where I get into the nitty-gritty of how things work. I also write out all of our detailed travel guides and our travel brochures. When we decide on a trip, Daphne generally figures out the place and some of the significant activities. And I figure out how it all fits into the schedule with transportation, housing, and all the details.

About Daphne French

I am originally from Argentina. When I was young my parents moved our family to sunny south Florida. I grew up at the beach with my eyes to the sky. Our house was below a plane flight path so I spent a lot of time growing up and dreaming of traveling. I moved to Boston in 2017 for a new adventure with Larry. We explored New England. Our new apartment was by the airport so we spent many hours watching planes take off and land.

Together we came up with an extensive bucket list for places to see and things to do while we are there. As our Boston adventure came to an end and we moved to North Carolina, we decided to organize ourselves and start exploring the world outside our borders.

Outside dreaming up new and unique places to see and do, I enjoy spending time at home. I love to read, bake, play with our pets, play board games, and hang out with friends. I have a low-key addiction to Spindrift’s Raspberry Lime and to candy crush. And every year I try to read a minimum of 30 books, so send recs my way!

On the blog, you’ll mostly see me talking about our experiences at destinations. You’ll also see me evaluate if a place is worth visiting. I enjoy trying new foods and new restaurants. Follow along as we cross off Bucket List items!
